Education is a Right
Every Child Deserves to Learn, Grow and Flourish
WHO WE ARE
Every child deserves a chance to learn, grow, and flourish, but for millions of children in Nigeria, especially in underserved communities like Mushin, that chance is slipping away.
We are a passionate, people-driven non-governmental organization (NGO) committed to tackling one of Nigeria’s most pressing social challenges: the alarming number of out-of-school children. With over 18 million Nigerian children out of school, and a staggering 500,000 in Lagos alone, we recognize that the crisis is not just about access to classrooms but about dysfunctional family backgrounds, including broken homes, economic inequality, emotional instability, and lack of holistic support for vulnerable families. Our work is deeply rooted in the belief that education is not just a right—it is a lifeline. We focus on underserved communities like Mushin, where family dysfunction, poverty, and social instability significantly increase the risk of school dropouts.
Our Approach
At May-Six Foundation, we believe that addressing the root causes of school dropout requires more than classroom access, it demands strengthening the family unit. Our approach goes beyond the school gate by working directly with parents, offering emotional support, practical skills training, and income-generating opportunities. By empowering families emotionally and financially, we help create stable home environments where education becomes a priority and children are more likely to thrive. Alongside this, we provide targeted support to the children themselves through mentorship, counseling, and academic assistance. These interventions are designed to reignite their confidence, restore hope, and keep them engaged in learning. By working hand-in-hand with both parents and children, we build a strong foundation that promotes long-term educational success and personal growth.
Through our strategic interventions, May-Six Foundation addresses the multifaceted challenges that keep children out of school by supporting not just the child, but the entire ecosystem around them. Our parent support programs are designed to stabilize homes both emotionally and economically. We work with parents through counseling sessions, financial literacy training, and skills development, helping them build confidence and resilience while improving their ability to provide for their families. By strengthening the household, we create a foundation where education can thrive.
We also run student-focused initiatives that cater to the specific needs of children in underserved communities. These include providing school supplies, emotional counseling, and mentorship programs that help children stay engaged, inspired, and hopeful about their future. Beyond the home and school, our community-driven solutions tackle broader systemic issues by empowering local families through outreach, advocacy, and economic support. These initiatives aim to break the cycle of generational poverty and build communities that actively support and protect the right of every child to learn and succeed.
Join us in turning the tide because when families are strong, children stay in school.
